GETSMART

Our last GETSMART (Getting Everyone To Study Math and Related Technologies) event was be held at The University of Tampa on October 13, 2012.† Boys and girls from bay area middle and high schools came together with professors and area business professionals to discover more about the use of math, science and technology in todayís business environment.† Current and future interests in the fields of math, science, and technology were discussed before giving everyone a hands-on experience with a technology of the studentís choosing.† Participants in previous events have had a choice of playing a business simulation using the SAP ERP platform, taking apart a computer, using a light spectrometer, building a web page, discussing 3D printing, or robotics .† After the hands-on experience, a follow up survey was given to determine how well the students enjoy the program and which hands-on activities increase their interests in further pursuing STEM-related† majors and careers.† Our next event will be on April 13, 2013.
